About me

Bruce Farquharson graduated Magna cum laude from George Wahington University with a Bachelors Degree in Music. Prior to graduation, Bruce won the Institute for the International Education of Students Merit Scholarship to study composition in Austria, Vienna. In addition to studying at George Washington University Bruce studied at The Juilliard School and Grove School of Music. His primary studies included composition, guitar, piano, viola, and conducting. Bruce has been commissioned by orchestra and chamber ensembles as well as performed in many settings including classical, rock and jazz to name a few. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the NOVA Manassas Symphony Orchestra. For the past few years Bruce has contributed his abilities as a composer to many films including “Cougars”, “Birds Of A Feather”, “Lot Lizards”, “The Touchstone” , “Samsara” and “Dirge” and spots for television and the internet such as advertisements for “Get Out The Vote”. “Composing music for film and television is probably one of the most challenging and at the same time most stimulating things one can do as a composer. The ability to add to a scene as well as the project as a whole and at the same time compose a piece of music that can stand on its own regardless of the situation (ie hearing the music with or without a scene) can prove to be quite a task. But that is the challenge, isn’t it?”. The films he has scored have played in film festivals including “Fantasia Film Festival” in Canada, “Horrorfind Filmfest” in PA, “Chicago Fearfest” in IL, “Madison HorrorFilm Festival” in WI and the “48 Hour Film Festival” in Washington DC. Bruce also completed music for the play “Red Scare On Sunset” which was performed at the Hylton for the Performing Arts Center in association with George Mason University and many projects are currently underway. In addition to continuing his work scoring films Bruce is very interested in composing music for different genres such as book trailers and cg based projects. “I am interested and open to composing music for anything. Whether it be composing for a jazz ensemble or symphonic orchestra, working with a band, scoring a film, or recording and performing, music is my life. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
